BOC (BABIES OF COLOR) PROGRAM
BOC Placements are a special opportunity to model God’s unconditional love. If you have an interest or a preference to adopt a minority child, we would love to work with you in finding the child that is just right for your family. Often there is a shortage of parents willing to adopt these special children, which means that the wait time is less than with other adoptions and our agency can sometimes waive a portion of our normal fee.
Adoptive parents that are considering adopting outside their race have some special considerations to make. They must consider the attitudes of their family and community as well as there own attitudes concerning discrimination. Adoptive parents adopting outside their race must also put into place a special support system for themselves and the child with one of the goals being to educate the child about his/her special heritage. Adoption Advantage takes the attitude concerning these issues very seriously in determining whether we will allow a parent to take part in this program.
Another type of child that is difficult to place is those children who have obvious medical conditions at birth. We only place these special children in homes where the family feels “called” to parent them and help them develop to their highest possible level.
Some adoptive parents have strong feelings concerning accepting the match of a birth mother who has participated in drug/or alcohol use while pregnant. We respect those feelings and never attempt to persuade a family to accept a child for which they do not feel comfortable with. One of our goals is to provide children with a safe and supportive environment with parents who embrace the special challenges these children sometimes bring.
Because the circumstances are unique for these children and their birth parents, we ask that you contact an adoptive parent coordinator for more specific information about this program.
